KEOLABS First Qualified for EMV® Mobile Product Level 1

KEOLABS announces that its EMVCo Level 1 Analog test tool, used for testing Mobile Products, is the first solution qualified successfully by EMVCo according to the latest version of the test specification 3.2a

02 January 2024, Montbonnot, FRANCE – When a mobile phone is placed in front of a reader to perform an EMV payment, the reader will behave as if it were a traditional card. Indeed, even if the mobile uses active modulation, it must behave like a passive card despite a few specific features. This applies not only to mobile, but also to wearable payment devices, which are becoming increasingly widespread. All these payment means are grouped together under the term Mobile Product.

Because of the technical specificities of Mobile Product, EMVCo, a technical body composed of six of the largest worldwide payment networks (Amex, Discover, JCB, Mastercard, UnionPay, and Visa), has issued a specific guideline called: Guidelines for EMV® Mobile Product Level 1 Type Approval, and since its latest version 3.2a, the EMVCo Level 1 Analog test tool requires two Letters of Qualification (LOQ): one for PICC and one for Mobile Product.

“We were the first qualified for EMVCo PICC Analog Level 1, and now the first qualified for Mobile Product,” said Christophe Rabaud, CEO at KEOLABS. “All thanks to the performance of our technical teams, who closely monitor developments in EMVCo specifications.”

Here are a few examples of updates performed by EMVCo with its guideline version 3.2a for Mobile Products: defining the reference testing position as the center of the Mobile RF antenna, defining a specific transaction flow for testing mobile devices during cryptographic exchanges, defining Mobile Level 1 specific dispositions such as failure management, etc.
